L’Uliveto
Masseria Villa Verde stands among 3 hectares of fruitful olive trees. The production of extra virgin olive oil of the estate starts from very far away, when the old mill of the farm was still working, while today it rests in the central hall, reminding us where we come from. Ask in Masseria l’oil experience, to walk among the olive trees of the estate, knowing the techniques of harvesting and pressing to obtain our high quality extra virgin olive oil.
Cortiletto
1000 square metres to explore. In our idea of sustainable tourism, we have imagined a place where to live in harmony with the land, where to promote local traditions, but above all where to enhance the agricultural vocation of the farm. Guests will be able to collect carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelons, zucchini, aubergines, watermelon and taste the fresh harvest as it is, prepare a salad or a centrifuged with our help, learn Apulian recipes such as “cialledda” or “bruschetta”.
L’Agrumeto
Suggestive and quiet, the citrus grove is the place to stop and enjoy nature and authentic beauty, among the scents of oranges and lemons. In Masseria, we share a thousand places to feel good and everyone will choose their own corner of peace. Here, finally, we assume gala dinners and refined events, under a sky of stars.
The History
The Masseria Deleonardis takes its name from the family who restored it. Francesco and Annarita, together with their parents, brought the estate back to life, transmitting the story and the desire to share it with others.
The Masseria started in 1700 as a tower among the olive trees and, in 1820, it became an oil mill called “Gravinella Calefati”. The oil mill had a grinding bowl with stone wheels driven by animals and 8 manual presses for oil. In 1920, two hydraulic presses were added.
The first notarial deed dates back to 1911, when Tommaso Caramia sold the property to Martino Grassi, who then donated it to his daughter Laura. Without heirs, Laura gave the farm to the priest Giovanni Calefati.
In the 1921
Maria, sister of the ecclesiastic, with her husband Carlo Indiveri, sold the estate for 8,500 lire to the bourgeois Giuseppe Loparco.
The latter, with the vice of the game, had contracted a big debt to Francesco Rosati. It was 1933, 44.550 lire were needed to solve the issue, so, Loparco donated the entire estate, with trappeto, gardens, olive grove to Rosati, then resident in Genoa.
In the 1941
During the Second World War, in the midst of the bombing of Genoa, Rosati and his wife, Francesca Cesareo, decided to find shelter in the Pugliese Masseria.
From the post-war period onwards, some peasant families alternated in renting the Masseria, where they carried out various activities of olive harvesting, oil production and animal husbandry.
IN the 1987
Francesca Cesareo, called “Mistress Checchina”, donated the entire Masseria to his nephew Vincenzo who was not interested in continuing the activities of his aunt and sold the property just one year later to Francesco Deleonardis, who had worked there as a farmer for years. His son, his daughter-in-law and his grandchildren, after a careful and meticulous renovation, today open the Masseria to tourists and visitors looking for an amazing holiday.
The Masseria in our day
Here, you can get to know the history of an ancient olive oil mill from 1700, touch the furnishings of a centenary authentic masseria, approach the luxury of Puglia made of praise for traditions and exaltation of details. You can find relief from your paturnie in the three hectares of olive grove or strolling in the fertile vegetable garden.
